As the longest running trendsetting magazine for women in America, The Ladies’ Home Journal was started in 1833 by husband H.K. Curtis and edited by his wife, Louisa Knapp. It was a supplementary newsletter for the ‘Tribune and Farmer’ magazine. It became its own publication in 1884 and then in 1889, when The Journal came under a new publisher, was when the magazine really took off. Over its lifespan the Journal published countless stories of fiction and nonfiction alike, and was seen as one of the top ten paid-circulation or subscription magazines of the 21st century. In 1986, the company was obtained by Meredith Corporation.
